MENA Friends of the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria organized a media dinner at Fakhr El-Din restaurant that was attended by a group of newspapers and media representatives.
The dinner included an overview presentation of the Global Fund that was established in 2002 as a result of international efforts. The Fund was founded to serve as a financing mechanism that ensures the provision of necessary financial resources that would enable poor and inflicted countries to launch, expand and sustain programs to combat these three dangerous diseases that threaten mankind.
The presentation also included an explanation of the role of the MENA Friends of the Global Fund within international efforts to combat these diseases. There are eight networks of the Friends of the Global Fund across different areas and regions of the world. Each operates as a voluntary organization seeking to strengthen the role of the Global Fund in their respective regions, coordinate disease fighting efforts between countries and governments at the regional level, and mobilize pertinent political, material and moral support necessary in this regard.
The presentation emphasized the vital role the media plays as a key partner in fighting epidemics, serious diseases and maintaining community health and safety through building health awareness and education and reporting facts and figures relating to said diseases.
The organization of this dinner comes as part of the preparatory efforts for official launch of the society that will be announced at a special ceremony that will be held in this regard. The MENA Friends of the Global Fund was registered in 2009 as a voluntary association based in Amman, such that it would form the base of the Global Fund’s regional efforts in the MENA area, which includes all Arab countries. The establishment of the Fund was made possible with the generous support of the Samih Darwazah Charity Foundation and Al Hikma Pharmaceutical Company.
